Submit a Tip

If your tip is minimally sensitive and you are not concerned about your network traffic being monitored, you can submit the tip by visiting https://whistle.underscoretimes.com, otherwise it is advised that you follow the steps outlined in one of the other two categories.

Your tips and insights are invaluable to us. To facilitate your contribution and ensure your privacy, we use GlobaLeaks, a secure, user-friendly platform designed to protect your anonymity. To maximize security, we recommend using the Tor Browser when submitting a tip. Tor Browser is a free, open-source web browser that anonymizes your internet usage, making it very difficult for anyone to trace your online activities.

Here's a detailed, step-by-step guide on how to submit a tip to our tipline using the Tor Browser.

Step 1: Download and Install Tor Browser

1. Open your regular web browser and visit the Tor Project website at https://www.torproject.org/.
2. Click on the 'Download Tor Browser' button.
3. Choose your operating system (Windows, MacOS, Linux, or Android) and follow the download instructions.
4. Once the download is complete, open the file to install Tor Browser on your device. Follow the on-screen instructions until the installation process is complete.

Step 2: Open Tor Browser and Access Our Tipline

1. Open Tor Browser from your applications folder or desktop shortcut.
2. In Tor Browser, type our GlobaLeaks .onion address in the URL bar (the long field at the top of the screen). An .onion address is a special type of address that can only be accessed through Tor. It usually consists of random letters and numbers followed by .onion. In this case, you will want to visit: awlvzjqflv7iq5t6sepn2wuzkdyc77q6rv2xl7lzzw4okv7puhbanjad.onion
3. Press 'Enter' on your keyboard to navigate to our tipline.

Step 3: Enter Your Tip

1. Once you've accessed our tipline, you'll see a space where you can write your tip. Please be as detailed as possible so we can thoroughly understand the situation. With Tor Browser and GlobaLeaks, your identity will remain anonymous.

Step 4: Attach Supporting Documents (Optional)

1. If you have any photos, videos, or documents that support your tip, you can upload them to the tipline.
2. Look for the 'Upload' button or a similar option. Click it and a window will open allowing you to navigate your files. Select the relevant files and click 'Open' to attach them.

Step 5: Submit Your Tip

1. Once you've entered all the information and attached supporting documents, look for the 'Submit' button and click it. 

Using Tor Browser for submitting tips is beneficial as it significantly enhances your online privacy and security. Not only does it hide your real IP address, but it also encrypts your data multiple times, ensuring your information is safe from prying eyes. Remember, your safety and privacy are our utmost concern. We appreciate your contribution towards making our community a safer place.

Your safety is our top priority. For extremely sensitive tips, we recommend using a combination of Tor Browser, the TAILS operating system, and a public WiFi network to further safeguard your identity.

Public WiFi networks, such as those found in coffee shops or libraries, are used by multiple people at once, which provides an additional layer of protection. Even if an entity were able to trace an action back to the network, it would be nearly impossible to determine who on the network was responsible for the action. Moreover, since these public networks are typically not associated with your personal identity, using them can help preserve your anonymity.

Follow these steps:

Step 1: Prepare TAILS on a USB Stick or DVD

1. Visit the TAILS website at https://tails.boum.org on your regular browser and follow the instructions there to download and install TAILS on a USB stick or DVD.

Step 2: Boot Your Device from TAILS

1. Insert the TAILS USB stick or DVD into your device.
2. Restart your device and boot from the TAILS media. The process to do this varies depending on the device, so refer to your device's manual or look up instructions online for your specific model.
3. Once TAILS is running (and you complete step 3), it automatically connects you to the Tor network.

Step 3: Connect to a Public WiFi Network

1. Visit a public location that offers free WiFi, such as a coffee shop, library, or shopping mall.
2. Connect your device to the public WiFi network. This typically involves selecting the network from your device's WiFi settings and accepting any terms or conditions.

Step 4: Submit Your Tip

1. In the Tor Browser (automatically included in TAILS), enter our GlobaLeaks .onion address into the URL bar at the top of the browser and press 'Enter' on your keyboard.
2. Once you've accessed our tipline, you'll see a space where you can write your tip. Please be as detailed as possible.
3. If you have any supporting documents, you can upload them. Look for the 'Upload' button, click it, navigate your files, select the relevant ones, and click 'Open'.
4. After you've entered your information and attached any supporting documents, look for the 'Submit' button and click it.

Note: Remember, while these steps significantly enhance your anonymity and security, no system is completely foolproof. Always consider your personal safety and provide only the information you are comfortable sharing.
